A tried and tested franchise that has been making solid games throughout the years released this edition and I must say, it's one of the best fighting games around. Every aspect of the game comes together in a way that helps it exceed all expectations and reach new heights for titles like this.
Gameplay
A 2D fighter probably seems like a button bashing nightmare to many. I can assure you that, although hat is the case with some games, it is not the case with this one. There’s so much more to it than just smashing your fingers into the controller and hoping for the best, there’s tact and practice involved. Technique is one of the most key aspects, you need to know how to play and know your characters abilities inside and out before you can hope to become a real champion.With delightfully responsive controls that allow you to crank out some impressive combos, this title offers a tremendous amount of fluidity with how you want to fight. If I can offer one piece of advice early on; learn how to block properly. Introducing an excellent combat Ai enemy, this game will punish you for reckless fighting and smash you into the pavement for spamming attacks.
There are a lot of characters in this game and they are all brilliantly balanced and they all offer players a unique experience. Given that this is the Ultimate Match Edition that was released in 2008, 10 years after the original, the game has a lot more characters.
There are different game modes as well as a more understanding use of handicaps when the loser starts the round on the backfoot. Through the culmination of knowledge and experience, the creators of this title provide a much more balanced and forgiving game, mechanics wise.
Art Style
The art style is outstanding. There’s a lot of people who might say that a solid art style does nothing for the game but I disagree. Ultimate Match has cleaned, well designed characters, animations and settings for the fight which all look vibrant and alive. There could be a fountain in the background or maybe some people watching the fight, but they all move in some way and it adds a lot of technical and visual depth.

Soundtrack
Goodness, this soundtrack is good. There’s something about the energy that it brings to the fights that turn this experience into something new altogether. Thumping beats and intense rock rhythm guitar under synths all culminate in a delightfully retro but equally punchy soundtrack to battle to.
A balanced and enjoyable to play, this game offers a tremendous amount to the player with replay value to spare. Make sure you practice and you’ll have a fantastic time. Give it a go.
